How to Calculate the quantity of Concrete you will require
Measure the volume (rounded to the nearest metre) — width x length x depth.
For example, to find out the volume for an area of 20m x 15m with a depth of 0.1m, the calculation is 20 x 15 x 0.1 giving a volume of 30 cubic metres.
To calculate areas that are an odd shape, divide them into rectangles and then calculate the area for each. Remember to round each calculation up to the next cubic metre.

High Slump or Flowing Concrete
Prior to hardening, concrete is in a plastic state and the consistency of this state is referred to as the 'slump'. Admixtures (or superplasticizers) are used in ready mixed concrete to achieve the same effect as adding more water to the concrete at the site, but without sacrificing strength. A concrete mix with a higher slump will give maximum flow, sometimes required for difficult placements or specific situations.
Flowable Fill Self Leveling Concrete
Concrete mixes designed to be flowable, self leveling and self compacting are used for backfill and structural fill and void filling applications and where easy excavation may be required.
Examples of where concrete is used for backfill: retaining walls, trenches, pile excavations.
Examples of where concrete is used for structural fill: footings, foundations, floor base and pipe bedding.
Examples of where concrete is used for void fill: storage tanks, manholes and sewers.
Fibre Reinforced Concrete
To replace welded wire fabric as a secondary reinforcement, polypropylene (plastic) fibers are used in the concrete mix.
Concrete mixes that use fibers are much less likely to be affected by shrinkage and settlement. The use of fibre reinforced concrete saves on time and labour and can give a superior finish.
